Canon Purchases CoWare N2C System Design Tools For Digital Imaging Product SoC Design

Canon Expects Big Productivity Gains by Designing at the System Level

TOKYO, Japan - June 14, 2001 - CoWare™, Inc. announced that the Advanced SoC Group of Canon Inc. has purchased the CoWare N2C™ system-level design tools for use in the designs of complex digital imaging System-on-Chips (SoCs). The CoWare N2C design system helps engineering teams take their initial design ideas from napkin-to-chip in half the time of previous design methods.

"Until now, a design system and methodology that addressed SoC development at the system-level did not exist. After a lengthy evaluation, we found that CoWare N2C will allow us to optimally design complex system-level architectures and are expecting that our SoC development time will be cut in half," stated Yasuhiro Tani, Assistant General Manager, SoC Div. 1, SoC Design Center, Platform Technology Development Headquarters, Canon Inc. "The digital imaging marketplace is demanding higher resolutions, faster processing speeds and built-in communications. We believe CoWare N2C will help us meet these demanding requirements while reducing development time and increasing designer productivity."

The CoWare N2C design system provides a proven methodology to go from an idea to an executable system specification to a cycle accurate description that can be modeled and tested extensively before costly chip implementation. The CoWare N2C design system helps engineering teams explore different architectures, analyze the best way to partition a design into hardware and software, perform hardware/software co-design and co-simulation, develop design platforms, and refine the design to RTL and object code for implementation.

"As the leading digital imaging company, Canon is pushing the envelope with their SoC designs," stated CoWare President and CEO Guido Arnout. "Canon multi-million gate SoC designs include complex processor IP and huge amounts of embedded software. We look forward to working with Canon to speed up their development process."
